Moreover, Some of Zanzibar’s trips are like honeymoon night and safari blue exclusively. Zanzibar has a lot to amaze you and left you speechless. The culture and history that lies on the ancient wall of Zanzibar streets are far from anything you can imagine.

Equally important The most evident historical site in Zanzibar is Stone Town which is the oldest and still inhabited city on the coast of East Africa, however, Zanzibar has so much to offer to visitors and tourists who set the journey there. From the ruins of numerous palaces that originate from the Oman sultanate, ancient mosques especially Kizimkazi which contain the oldest Swahili text, the Persian bathhouses, and colonial buildings which are in the Indian Colonial style. Zanzibar is an absolute treasure for all tourists and visitors who are historically inclined and beach-life-obsessed travellers. We partner to offer you an exciting tour when you opt for one of our Zanzibar beach holiday packages, we will take you everywhere and you will discover why Zanzibar is really a gem.

The best beaches on Zanzibar
  • Nungwi and Kendwa (North)– The best beaches on the island. Really beautiful and classic Indian Ocean paradise. Non-tidal turquoise waters and really powdery white sands. Can sometimes be busy.
  • Pongwe (East) – Pongwe sits in a little concave bit of coast line which means the beach is glorious and when the tide isn’t completely in, it is seaweed free and very pretty. Not the long sweeping beaches of the north, but a pocket of pure beachy gold. Less busy than the north.
  • Paje and Dongwe (East) – Although tidal, here sit some of our favourite luxury boutique hotels. You would not be let down here in terms of accommodation. The beach is beautiful, but getting your toes wet is a bit harder than in the northern Nungwi regions as the sea is further out and very tidal.
  • Matemwe (North-East) – Slightly to the east of Nungwi, Matemwe is slightly tidal but when the tide is in there are a few of our favourite fantastic value accommodation options.

Mnemba Island, an island off the northeast coast of Zanzibar, is one of the best places in Zanzibar Islands to go snorkeling. This day trip is the easiest way to explore the underwater world of Zanzibar Island.

The underwater world at Mnemba Island is unbelievably spectacular. There are countless colourful fishes and other sea creatures that survive among the coral reefs and underwater plants which together form the barrier reef ecosystem.

Fishing activities are forbidden near Mnemba Island, which creates a paradise for a variety of sea creatures around the Island.

Stone Town Zanzibar

Visitors to Zanzibar tend to arrive and leave via Stone Town, the island capital and an historic hub of commerce and culture. This ancient centre was the seat of the Sultans, whose crumbling palaces, bath houses and mosques are a legacy of this opulent and vibrant time at the heart of the gold trade.

The town has a very different commercial attitude today, and one that thrives on the growing tourist market. The labyrinthine streets are lined with traders selling everything from mass-produced art works to ancient wooden doors, from tie dye t-shirts to jewels. The muezzins’ call to prayer echoes across the rooftops at the break of day, while cats, goats, dogs, roosters and babies often make themselves heard in between! This old town remains a wonderful place to spend a night or two, getting lost among the elegant, ancient buildings, eating fresh fish on the sea front and breathing in the sights, sounds and smells of a truly Swahili centre. A stay in Stone Town is always a wondrous assault on the senses, but a couple of nights are enough if you value peace and quiet and a good nights sleep! Nowadays there are a good number of Boutique hotels in Stone Town – often recently renovated.

Pemba Island
Pemba Island is one of the top diving and snorkelling locations off the coast of Tanzania with the entire island surrounded by coral reef, which act as world class dive sites, the marine life you could discover is phenomenal. Between the island and mainland Tanzania the Pemba Channel shelves off to depths of more than 2,000m, and Pemba is famous for seriously large sea fish, which include barracuda, tuna, shark, and even whales.  This is a glorious African playground for experienced divers. This is a glorious playground for experienced divers.  Visibility is generally very good and there are some spectacular pinnacles. Currents are strong at Pemba so it’s not ideal for first time divers. If you don’t fancy spending all your time underwater, sunset cruises aboard dhow boats are available and are extremely popular.
Mafia Island
As an unspoiled, little-visited alternative to other Indian Ocean locations around Zanzibar and along the coast, Mafia and its surrounding archipelago including Jibondo, Juani and Chole have a great deal to offer.  However, as with Pemba, Mafia has better diving than Zanzibar, but worse beaches. Just a 30-minute flight south of Zanzibar, Mafia is the one island off Tanzania’s coast that really encourages visitors to explore its offshore islands and sand bars. There are very few hotels here which only add to the attraction of Mafia as the beach destination for the adventurous traveler.
Mafia is primarily known for its ocean glory, the Marine Park which was created to protect its reefs.  The diving, fishing and snorkeling here are the best in the entire region, infinitely better than those to be found on Zanzibar (although note that the beaches on the main island are not nearly as good as Zanzibar’s).   When Zanzibar holidays do not provide advanced diving, Mafia has plenty to challenge and reward the advanced diver – as well as numerous sheltered bays and coves that are great for novice to intermediate divers.  Snorkeling is also magnificent.
